Our History
Since 1997, PK has built a legacy of excellence across specialty coatings, safety, and technology-driven inspection services. This legacy is rooted in a safety-first culture, skilled craftsmanship, and an enduring commitment to reliability and innovation.
The Founding of PK
PK was founded in 1997 by Kevin Turpin and later joined by his brothers, Brian and Kenny Turpin. What began as a small-town coatings company quickly grew through hard work, innovation, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Starting with high-end automotive and industrial machinery coatings, PK soon expanded beyond painting by partnering with manufacturers, learning new techniques, and improving quality and efficiency every step of the way.
PK Industrial is formed as a division of PK
After several years of painting heavy machinery and refinery equipment off-site with specialty applications, PK’s reputation was growing. PK becomes the first company to spray Chartek 1709 in an onshore facility in North America. As fireproofing grew rapidly on new construction projects in 2005, PK Industrial (PKI) became known as a leader for intumescent fireproofing applications in the oil & gas industry.
PK Safety is formed as a second division of PK
PK Industrial, which specializes in applying coating systems in hazardous and complex environments, faced a challenge due to a shortage of skilled personnel in the third-party safety teams they were utilizing. Recognizing the need for improvement, PK decided to enhance the quality of these safety teams by supplying their own safety professionals. As a result, PK Safety was founded to provide safety experts who uphold the high standards and quality for which PK is known.
PK Technology & Inspection is formed as the third division of PK
With inspectors now in-house, PK saw an opportunity to make field data more consistent, accessible, and efficient. The team began exploring mobile technology to improve how inspection information was captured, shared, and managed in real time.
After working with outside software developers, PK realized the best solution needed to be built by people who understood the industry firsthand. That led to in-house development and the beginning of technology-driven inspection support within PK.
The Growth Continues & intelliSPEC™
After bringing inspection expertise in-house, PK continued looking for better ways to create consistency, improve field documentation, and support growth across multiple divisions.
In 2012, PK invested in mobile technology and began developing tablet-based applications built specifically for field use. This led to the creation of intelliSPEC™, along with internal solutions to support PK Industrial and PK Safety operations.
These tools helped standardize processes, improve communication, and support rapid growth as PK expanded into the offshore market. As customers saw the technology being used in the field, interest grew beyond PK’s internal operations — helping lay the foundation for PK’s evolution into a technology-driven company.
A New Era of Innovation
In 2024, PK entered a new era after being acquired by an individual entrepreneur following many years of family ownership.
With Stewart Records appointed as CEO, he began expanding his vision of operational excellence across the organization, strengthening how PK serves its customers, supports its teams, and delivers across every service line.
This transformation positioned PK for its next phase of growth, built on stronger systems and a continued commitment to quality, safety, and innovation.
Acquisition of Pro-Surv
PK announces the acquisition of Pro-Surve Technical Services (Pro-Surve), a highly respected provider of inspection, engineering, and quality assurance services across the U.S.
This strategic move strengthens PK's national footprint and accelerates the growth of PK Technology & Inspection, enhancing the Company's ability to deliver industry‑leading inspection, NDE, and compliance services with the quality and reliability our customers expect.
